Professor Konstantinos GEORGIADIS
Vice-Rector of the University of Peloponnese


Konstantinos Georgiadis is a Professor of the University of Peloponnese, in the Department of Sports Organization and Management at the Faculty of Human Movement and Quality of Life Sciences of the University of Peloponnese

He holds a PhD in Sports Science from the Johannes Gutenberg Universität of Mainz.


Since the academic year 2009-2010, he is the director of the International Postgraduate Program of Olympic Studies “Olympic Studies, Olympic Education, Organisation and Management of Olympic Events” which is organized by the University of Peloponnese and the International Olympic Academy.


He is Emeritus Professor of the Capital Institute of Physical Education in Beijing (2006).

In January 2010 he became Vice-rector of International Relations and Culture at the University of Peloponnese.

He is Honorary Dean of the International Olympic Academy, in which he was originally Scientific Director and later Dean.

Since 2000, he is a member of the IOC Commission for Culture and Olympic Education, while from 2005 to 2010 he was a member of the IOC Coordination Commission for the 1st Youth Olympic Summer Games in Singapore.


During the organization of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he was a member of the 17 member Executive Board of the “Athens 2004” Organising Committee for the Olympic Games.

For five consecutive times, from 1992 up to 2012, he has been elected member of the Executive Committee of the International Society of Olympic Historians (ISOH), while he has been honored with the Vikelas Plaque (2007) by the International Society of Olympic Historians (ISOH) for his contribution to the Olympic research.

His main works are: Die Ideengeschichliche Grundlage der Erneuerung der Olympischen Spielen im 19. Jahrhundert in Griechenland und Ihre Umsetzung 1896 in Athen (The ideohistorical base of the Olympic Games’ revival in Athens in the 19th century and the first International Olympic Games), Agon Sportverlag, Kassel 2000 and The Revival of the Olympic Games, Pbl Ekdotiki Athinon, Athens 2003. Among his recent editions are: Georgiadis K., Syrigos A. (Eds), Olympic Truce – Sport as a Platform for Peace, International Olympic Truce Centre (IOTC), Athens 2009 and Koulouri Chr. – Georgiadis K. He has been invited and participated as main speaker in many international congresses and fora.
